LATEST INFORMATION

In recent weeks we have been advised that our applications for 'National School Pride' and 'Primary Schools of the 21st Century' funding were both approved.

The National School Pride project is a $150k project to construct an Outdoor Learning and Education centre. This project has already commenced and incorporates a decked area for student recitals and performances, an outdoor seating area for groups of students, a central garden, a dividing wall between the new area and the senior playground, scattered seating for adults and students as well as shade areas and paving to the whole area.

The PS21 (Primary Schools for the 21st Century) funding of $2.5 million is a much larger project and incorporates six new classrooms and a Library learning precinct. A Masterplan has been approved and tenders for the construction will be sought over coming months with work expected to commence by September / October. All being well, this project will be completed, and the building ready for students, at the commencement of the 2011 school year.  The new PS21 building will be located on vacant land on the north eastern boundary of the school gaining much better orientation for the building as well as enabling immediate construction. Remodelling the existing building wasn’t deemed a viable option at this stage.

CARE GROUPS

Care groups are held each alternate Friday.  Based on the “Tribes’ student welfare support model, the program aims to build social and interpersonal skills in children. The groups are multi-aged with a mix of students from all year levels and with a “teacher / leader”. Further briefings about the program are planned for parents.

ASSEMBLIES

With the introduction of our Care Groups this year on each alternate Friday, Assembly will now take place every other week to Care Group.  Dates are on the Calendar above. Parents are extended a warm invitation to attend the whole school assemblies.

Glen Waverley Primary School, situated in the heart of Glen Waverley, is a diverse, multicultural school, providing high quality teaching and learning for primary age students, with emphasis placed upon the traditional curriculum areas of literacy and numeracy.
