Letter to school community - May 2012

Education Week 2012 Program

WHOLE SCHOOL FUN RUN

We have rescheduled our House Cross Country to the 23rd May during Education Week at Jells Park between 10.00 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. Students are encouraged to wear a house coloured t-shirt, runners and bring their own drink bottle with their name on it. Parents and friends are welcome to join students for a BBQ at Jells Park.

GWPS BOOK FAIR

As 2012 is the International Year of Reading and May is National Family Reading month  our school has decided to host a Scholastic Book Fair Showtime to celebrate! A Book Fair is a great way to get your child reading — but we need your help!  Our school is entering a READ MORE IN MAY competition, where we encourage the children to read with their families every day during the month of May!     Click here for more information :-  Book Fair Parent Letter  Also here is a Book Fair Invitation and a list of books that will be available - Book Fair Books

SAVE OUR TREES

We are looking to distribute the GWPS newsletter to our families electronically, which will help reduce our printing costs and help create a cleaner environment.   If you would like us to send you an email advising that the latest newsletter has been posted on our website, please click here.  All you need to do is put in your email address and a link to our latest newsletter will be sent direct to you fortnightly.  We will continue to send home a 'paper' newsletter intially, whilst gauging the response to this request.

Premier's Reading Challenge

2012 is the National Year of Reading and our aim is to have all GWPS students involved in the Premier's Reading Challenge. This involves students reading books from the school library or home.  Most of the books your child reads should be from the Challenge book lists. These are called Challenge books.  However, up to one third (10 if you are in Prep to Year 2 and 5 if you are in Year 3 to 6) can be any book you choose. These are called Choice books.     You can access the Challenge Booklists in a PDF format here :-  Booklist Prep-2Booklist 3-4Booklist 5-6.  Follow this link for further information :- Premier's Reading Challenge 2012
