Over two terrific Thursdays, our 18 Mass Dancers from Level 5 and 6 along with the Performing Arts Captains proudly represented the GWPS community at Oakleigh South Primary School as they rehearsed their dance numbers for the Victorian State School Spectacular.
The songs in this year’s production include genres like jazz, hip hop, pop, and rock. Deon, a choreographer from the DET Performing Arts Unit, guided us through the riveting highly complex dance moves for this year’s massive performance along with help from a vibrant and supportive team of dance instructors. A clear highlight was when Deon and other instructors pointed out the enthusiasm, connection, listening skills and crisp movements of the team throughout the two days.
It has been truly wonderful to witness the commitment, professionalism, and growth-mindset from our school’s dance crew so far this year. We absolutely cannot wait to achieve more between now and the next Local Hub Rehearsal. Get ready to see us share our progress with an assembly performance in the near future.
Here are some quotes about the two days from our spectacular dancers:
“We sing before we talk, and we dance before we walk.” – Jaik 5B.
“THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE! I didn’t believe that I would get to be a part of Mass Dance.” – Thinuli 5C
“All it takes is practice then we’ll get there, the Victorian State School Spectacular!” – Alyssa 6A.
“There is nothing of a much special experience when it comes to VSSS.” – Hansiga 6B.
