National Simultaneous Story time at GWPS!

On Wednesday 19th May, Glen Waverley Primary School took part in the National Simultaneous Storytime where all the children at our school, in 100’s of schools across the nation and an astronaut in space, read the Storybook “Give Me Some Space” simultaneously at 10:40am.

This is the annual event by the Australian Library and Information Association where an Australian author’s picture story book is read simultaneously across the nation.

This year, it is made even more exciting as an astronaut in space read the same book at the same time. View Video Here

This year’s NSS took place from the International Space Station at GWPS.

Each of our classrooms shared and read this story to our students.

The aim of the National Simultaneous Storytime is to:

  • promote the value of reading and literacy,
  • promote the value and fun of books,
  • promote an Australian writer and publisher,
  • promote storytime activities in libraries and communities around the country and,
  • provide opportunities to involve parents, grandparents, the media and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion.

Our Prep students were lucky enough to have this fabulous story read to them by our Principal Mr Catalano.
