Educational Intent
String Ensemble was created to give our string musicians specific learning opportunities and to extended their ensemble knowledge that might not have been possible in School Band. String Ensemble allows students to develop their ensemble skills with a classical focus, rather than the contemporary focus School Band has.
Students combine their classroom music, instrumental and theory knowledge and apply their skills to a chamber music setting. Students learn to follow a conductor, analyse sheet music and gain a deeper understanding of beat, rhythm, time signatures, key signatures and the application of scales. String Ensemble has the opportunity to perform at assemblies and school events. We rehearsal Monday lunchtimes in the Music Room.
Age Group
Students in Year 4, 5 & 6, who learn a string instrument (violin, viola, cello or double bass) are welcome to audition for String Ensemble.
Selection Criteria
Students in Years 4, 5 & 6 can audition for String Ensemble. Students are asked to play a short piece they have prepared, often what they are working on in their instrumental lesson. Students need to be able to read music. Students who show they can read music, play in time and collaborate in an ensemble will be selected.
