Targeted Student Learning
English As a Second Language
The Targeted Student Learning (TSL) program supports students’ learning needs by providing one-on-one or small group sessions with a TSL teacher. Students are selected to join the program based on the classroom teacher’s analysis of student assessment data and learning samples. Using this information, classroom teachers work collaboratively with the TSL teacher to tailor a learning program that will meet the needs of students. Some of the common needs addressed are related to learning English as an Additional Language (EAL), transitioning into, through and out of the school and helping students develop a deeper understanding of fundamental Mathematical and Literacy concepts. The duration of students’ participation in the program is dependent on the students’ needs, as determined by the classroom teacher in collaboration with the TSL teacher.
