At Glen Waverly Primary School we have an expansive and engaging Visual Arts program taught fortnightly in a dedicated Art room. Students have opportunities to create artworks with a variety of art materials and mediums, linking to school values and inquiry units. We offer multiple extra programs such as Art Innovation, Artist in School, lunchtime Art clubs and after school art classes.
Art Innovation – Students are presented the opportunity to apply for the Art Innovation classes where small groups of students deepen their knowledge of Art, whilst working on large scale projects.
Artist in School – Each year we invite a professional artist to work alongside the students to create large scale projects such as murals, photography and construction. This opportunity allows students to interact with industry professionals and collaborate with each other.
Lunchtime Art Clubs – During Lunchtime the year 6 Art Captains run a lunchtime Art club for student to develop their skills in drawing.
After School Art Class – The New Start Art Company conducts weekly after school art classes for those who wish to enrol. These classes run from 3.45 – 5.15pm each Wednesday in the Art room. These classes have a focus on drawing and building art skills.
We take great pride in our Visual Arts program and seek to showcase children’s’ work throughout the school and wider community. We also encourage the children to value their work by hanging it up at home or storing it in a folio.

Visual Art is a very important subject and includes drawing, photography, painting, construction, and textiles. Art can be realistic or abstract, and it challenges the brain! We can transfer these skills to work on our career paths or interests. We can also use these skills with other subjects such as digital learning and English. – Vihaan and Rehansa (Year 6)
