Throughout the day students explored animal habitats, features, adaptions, lifecycles and survival strategies, strengthening their understanding of ecosystems. They also participated in a 40-minute workshop focused on Australian animals, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. The excursion provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning with real world examples in an engaging and meaningful way.
Here are some reflections and memorable quotes from the students:
Yara- “Did you know that Cassowaries eat their own poop?”
Suhansa- “Lions are set free from their parents when they are two years old.”
Samarth- “Snow leopards can jump super high and climb mountains super-fast.”
Rihani- “When we had our workshop, the person told us that in ancient times, they didn’t have pencils and paper. Aboriginal people know about the animals.”
Aaradhyaa- “If one animal in the food chain dies, the whole food chain will be disrupted.”
Samhith- “Baboons have big pink skin on their bottom.”
Zoey- “Limas have a really good skill of climbing and are really fast.”
Shanaya- “Kangaroos can jump high. Joeys can stay in the pouch until they are grown enough to come out.”
Humsikha- “You can tell the animal by the smell; it smells like popcorn. It looks like a bear mixed with a possum tail. It’s called a Binturong!”
Tejas- “With all your senses you can understand your habitat. You can hear the birds.”
