Our Prep students recently enjoyed two exciting and educational visits from our local firefighters, learning valuable lessons about fire safety and the important role firefighters play in our community.
On Tuesday 14th July, we welcomed the firefighters into our classroom for an engaging presentation about staying safe. We learnt that there are both good fires and bad fires and that every home should have working smoke detectors and a fire evacuation plan. The firefighters explained the importance of having a safe family meeting place outside the home, such as the letterbox or a safe spot on the footpath, where everyone can gather after evacuating. We also discovered that firefighters are important community helpers, just like police officers and ambulance paramedics, who work hard to keep us safe.
On Wednesday 22nd July, some of the firefighters returned to our school with their big, red fire truck. We met them at the turning circle. After learning even more about fire safety, the Prep students were excited to take turns holding the fire hose. There were lots of smiles and laughter as everyone used their imaginations to pretend they were real firefighters!
We then gathered for some special photos beside the fire truck before thanking the firefighters for their wonderful visit.
These experiences were both fun and educational and our Prep students gained an understanding of fire safety and the important role firefighters play in helping to keep our community safe.
