Throughout Term 3, Year 2 has been learning about landmarks! What makes them recognisable, why they’re important and importantly, what people actually do when they visit them.

Once we hopped on the train, we crossed the Monbulk Creek Trestle Bridge, giving us another pretty impressive local landmark to add to our list. The day wasn’t without its challenges… we did have a brief 20 minute arctic blast of wind and rain. Thankfully, it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits... even if it did dampen our clothes and clear out the cobwebs between our bones!

Everyone had a fantastic time and there were a lot of very sleepy Grade 2s on the bus on the way home. We’re calling that a successful excursion!

If you see any of our Grade 2 kiddos roaming around over the next few days, be sure to ask them about Puffing Billy. They have a lot to tell you! 

• “I didn’t realise how many road crossings there were! My arms got tired from waving to all the people!” Devindu 
• “I noticed that the Puffing Billy train engine had ‘2A’ written on the side of it!” Bavitran 
• “I learned that there are like 5 different engines all called Puffing Billy! There’s even a diesel engine one that they use in summer because it doesn’t use fire, so it’s safe to use when it’s really warm outside!” Samaira 
• “Each class had their own carriage which was fun! We got to look at all the trees going past and the animals in the paddocks and we had to wave at all the people when we crossed over the roads. It made everyone smile.” Tanisha  
• “I learnt that Puffing Billy is important to people and it holds memories to people as well.” Jiyaan 
• “I liked that part where we had to dress up and learnt about the 3A train. It was the first Australian made train.”  Amana
