On Tuesday 13th September the Level Six Learners journeyed to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre to visit the LUME. This multi-sensory experience deepened our students understanding of how visual and auditory stimuli can convey emotions and share a message to a broad audience.
Ater a lovely Morning tea and a briefing by the Wonderful Staff at LUME. Students spent over 90 minutes in a fully immersive environment that used sight, sounds, movement, text and even smells to celebrate the life and works of Vincent van Gogh.
Davik Our School Vice Captain had this to say about his experience.
“The LUME Exhibition was a sensational experience. The combination of lighting, colour and sound beautifully displayed Van Gogh’s life. It shared his successes and his personality. In one word: Breathtaking. As soon as I walked into the first room, all my worries simply melted. The calm ambiance of the soothing violin and calming colours made me feel welcome. The information was enriching and I loved learning about van Gogh’s life. The projections in the second room at LUME blew me away. The Sunflower room was mesmerising. Each room and level gave me a chance to explore myself though art. All in all, it was wonderous.”
One of our Art Captains Thesan said “It’s an experience that everyone should have because you get to see paintings that move unlike any other museum or gallery”
“As a Digital Learning Captain, watching the projections was a breathtaking experience which I would love to be able to transfer. Something interesting was watching how the sounds and images matched and created meaningful messages.” Revti 6A
Safwan from 6E said “Today’s trip to The LUME Melbourne helped us engage in Van Gogh’s artworks in a 21st century way. The immersive experience helped us to make connections to our Inquiry Question ‘How are viewpoints influenced by digital technologies?’ The exhibit put sounds, movement and text into oil paintings to create a new meaning.”
Thank you to the staff and students who made the day such a rich day of learning.
