This semester, in our Year 6 English Innovation program, the students have been focusing on how persuasive techniques are applied to multimodal texts and understanding how different modes of texts can disseminate ideologies to the masses and advance opinions. They investigated how different organisations use texts to communicate their identity through their mission statements, values and purpose. They then explored how organisations create images, in particular mascots, that embody the organisation’s identity to increase audience engagement.
Using this knowledge, the students created their own mascots that embodied the identity of Glen Waverley Primary School. They researched about the school in depth and listed keywords that they believed exemplified the Glen Waverley Primary School spirit. Through these keywords, they designed a mascot using their understanding of intertextual references and connections.
In Term 2, these mascots will go head to head in an election to see who will be voted in as Glen Waverley Primary School’s official mascot for 2025!
