At Glen Waverley Primary School, we believe that physical, social and emotional wellbeing are paramount for all students to achieve their full potential and achieve success. As part of our commitment to wellbeing and mental health, students at our school are offered the opportunity to engage in regular, as well as needs-based counselling with our two onsite school counsellors, Mr. Ryo Sugihara and Miss Mahnoor Ijaz.
Everyone, both children and adults alike, will from time to time require someone that will listen to them without judgement. This may be associated with particular life challenges, or they may need a space for self-reflection. School counselling provides this opportunity for our students in a safe and familiar environment. Wellbeing needs our school counsellors may support the students can include, but are not limited to:
- Social skills such as communication, confidence and developing assertiveness,
- Mental health concerns such as anxiety and depression,
- Life events such as trauma and grief,
- School-based challenges such as friendships, academic engagement and attendance.
If you are interested for your child to engage in school counselling or would like to learn more about our service, we recommend discussing this further with your child’s classroom teacher or feel free to contact Mr. Ryo Sugihara at ryo.sugihara@education.vic.gov.au or Mr. Roland Lewis at roland.lewis@educaiton.vic.gov.au.
