The bus ride was filled with eager anticipation as students, parents, and teachers made their way to explore the past. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by two staff members dressed in period costumes, setting the scene for a day of historical exploration.
Inside Como House, the students delved into the history of the grand estate and learned about the wealthy Armytage family who once called it home. They imagined themselves as children of the family, experiencing life with real servants and engaging in various activities such as dancing in the ballroom, hand-washing clothes near the laundry, and playing croquet in the beautiful gardens.
Melbourne graced us with sunny weather, making it a perfect day for outdoor activities and learning. The students thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on experiences, which brought history to life.
Here’s what some of our students had to say about their day:
- Myra: "I helped Miss Lye find ten clues in the garden to solve the Garden Mystery."
- Ohana: "My favourite part was the ballroom dance."
- Binol: "I learned that they had to wash clothes by hand in the past."
- Charlotte: "I liked washing the clothes."
- Aura: "We had to find clues in the garden to see who broke the doll."
It was a day full of learning, imagination, and fun that our students will remember for a long time.
